Bio

Dr. Jacob Spendelow received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 2002 and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2006, where he studied model electrocatalysts and microstructured fuel cells with Prof. Andrzej Wieckowski and Prof. Paul Kenis. He joined Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) as a Director’s Postdoctoral Fellow in 2006 and became a permanent staff member in 2008. Dr. Spendelow has more than 20 years of experience in electrochemical energy technologies, with expertise in electrocatalysis, nanostructured materials, membrane electrode assemblies, and electrochemical device engineering. He has led numerous research programs involving fuel cells, reversible fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries, and related energy-conversion systems. He also served for several years as a Science Advisor and Technology Development Manager in the U.S. Department of Energy, where he managed R&D programs on polymer electrolyte membranes, electrocatalysts and catalyst supports, and reversible fuel cells.
